About Me

‘Most of the shadows in this life are caused by standing in our own sunshine.’

Having been in the field of Personal Development for over three decades means I can help you get from the situation you are in now, to the place you want to be.

My working journey began with MIND in Colchester, where I started out as a Citizen Advocate assisting people in the community who were struggling with mental health issues and basic life skills.

Whilst Mental Health has always been on the agenda, in the early nineties it did not have the same coverage and acceptance it has today. My curiosity about the meaning of life and my interest in psychology led me to train as a counsellor and coach.

I trained as a counsellor in the late nineties, later I trained as a Life Coach. I obtained a teaching qualification and began training student counsellors. I adopt a teaching/mentoring style in my work, and I am always keen to share helpful information with my clients, anything that fosters self-awareness and opens the door to new possibilities.

My work is characterised by good endings and fresh starts. I am by nature optimistic and influenced by Positive Psychology which seeks to recognise and cultivate inner strengths, rather than fixating on and fuelling weaknesses. A good ending means recognising the limitations of the past and being willing to let go and turn the page on a new chapter.

It is unhelpful and counterproductive to keep focusing on problems that keep you emotionally tied to the past and habituated behaviours.

I am committed to helping people succeed and grow toward a higher functioning life. I know personally how challenging change can be as I have felt fear and weathered many storms. I would describe myself as a “how to” therapist, I offer practical exercises such as EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to help release tension and create the foundations for optimal health and happiness.

My approach is lively, kind, and caring and my intention is that clients leave better informed and inspired to live a better life having discovered their inner resources and potential to grow and live with greater freedom.

I deal with a range of issues, and I view adversity as an opportunity for clients to reevaluate their lives. Often people do not realise their full potential until they confront their inner barriers.

Therapy is not a problem-solving exercise it is about getting to know your true self and deliberately creating the life you want to live. Ideally my work is suited to clients who are stuck in a rut or going through major life transitions and need support and guidance to make the necessary changes and move forward with a more positive attitude and outlook.
